A letter John wrote to his parents on November 18, 1898-1900 which was translated from Czech/Bohemian to english by Georgiana Wagner: Dear Parents, I with my family send many greetings and wish my dear mother and father good times for you and your children. For a long time I haven't any news received. So don't know why you have forgotten-- -no one has heard from you. Dear Mother. I with my wife and our children wish a beautiful holiday Christmas much health, happiness and God's blessing and many years with health and satisfaction on this happily meet you and your children. Concerning our health, we are Dear Lord all healthy and good. We are coming with our work, finished last month and the cows have been pasturing in the cornfields now, I started but there isn't enough water, weather is beautiful, its warm and wheat is nice for this time of the year but what Dear Lord gives will be. Children are going to school, three are going to the Catholic school and Johny is in the higher grades. Must also write that Marie had her 21 teeth pulled all at once and didn't take anything for pain and sleeping all for $25 dollars and should last 5 years. Now they don't hurt and no headache. When we come to visit, you will see how she can bite nuts. Marie would like to know if mother has new teeth or not. Marie sold Plums and got $29. Turkeys this year almost all 5 were full grown. I also sold hogs and made $100. One we butchered and 6 more we are feeding for butchering and I container of kraut and we are going to make one more. Grandpa Schindler is healthy, walks every day to Mass and on Sunday was old Steffels birthday celebrated with all his children. I was there during the week and he sends his greetings. Old Steffel is very weak and can't walk very well, when he lays down on his side, he has to lay that way till morning, Anna is still in good health, when I was over she was pulling weeds in the garden. Am sending you pictures. Our little children Rosie and Anna were crying, had trouble with them so afraid they wouldn't turn out. Sending you 4 to each one would have sent 5 but hard to send. Happy greetings to my brother Les and I and sister in law and you dear parents. Write to us soon how you are doing and Jos, how did you like Baltimore. John Wagner

Her body was interred APR 1997 in St. Michael's, Defiance Co., OH. According to Rose, when she was a child her mother Mary had a cure for bumps and scrapes, cuts, and injuries in general. She used to use our live-forever plant as a skin remedy, she says. It worked well for cuts and open sores to draw any infection or anything out. It also worked when we got thorns in our feet from running around barefoot outside. She'd take two leaves from the plant. Then start at the points, she'd bruise them and then peel off what I call the skin. Underneath, it was real moist. She'd scrape off the liquid from one leaf and put it on the other. Then she'd lay that leaf on the sore and wrap it up. After a day or two she'd take off the leaf. And if it wasn't better, she'd put on a fresh one. It always worked great.
