1. Henry¹ BATES (#1283) was born in Arten Green, Germany or, Barvaria 2 AUG 1829. Henry died 27 AUG 1864 in Nashville, TN., at age 35. His body was interred 1864 in Riverside Cem., Defiance Co., OH.

He married Hannah NULL 30 JAN 1855 in OH. (Hannah NULL is #1280.) Hannah was born 3 MAR 1835 in Stark Co., OH. Hannah was the daughter of Martin NULL and Sarah Agatha SITTERLY. Hannah died 27 MAR 1913 in Defiance, Defiance Co., OH, at age 78. Her body was interred 30 MAR 1913 in Riverside Cem., Defiance Co., OH. Henry died of food poisoning during the civil war. the family story was that he ate a poisoned pie given to him in Nashville, TN.

Henry BATES and Hannah NULL had the following children:

2 i. Sarah Evaline² BATES (#1553) was born in Defiance, Defiance Co., OH 28 AUG 1857. Sarah died 1946 in Defiance, Defiance Co., OH, at age 88. Her body was interred 1946. She married twice. She married Andrew VINCENT date unknown in OH. (Andrew VINCENT is #1593.) Andrew was born date unknown. Andrew died date unknown at age unknown. (See Andrew VINCENT for the continuation of this line.) She married an unknown person 23 APR 1874.

She was christened 11 OCT 1857 in St.John Luth., Defiance, OH.. Some of the Bates family records indicate her middle name was actually Eberline.

+ 4 iii. William Elias BATES was born 12 AUG 1863.
