His widow, Mrs. Margaret Umbs, three daughters, Mrs. Marion McKellipes, Defiance, Mrs. Charles McCauley, Evansport; Mrs. John D. Taylor, Cleveland, two sons, George P. and J.C. Umbs of the home, with none grandchildren survive. Funeral srevices will be held Monday at 9:00 a.m. in St. John's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. George Lang officiation. Burial will be made in Riverside Cem. Arrived in the USA in 1878, and declared naturalization Oct. 9, 1882.

Jacob Charles "Jack" Umbs, 69, 402 Franklin St., died at 8:25 a.m. today in Defiance City Hospital, where he was admitted March 20. Born in Highland twp. on April 18, 1884, Mr. Umbs was the son of Jacob and Margaret (Flomersfeld) Umbs. A carpenter, Mr. Umbs is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Philippine Taylor of Cleveland and Mrs. Louise McCauley of Sacramento, CA. Two brothers Joseph and George and two sisters Mrs. Margaret McKellipes and Catherine Umbs, preceded him in death. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, where services will will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m., with rev. John J. Vogel, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cem. The body is in Mansfield and Mast Funeral Home. 10 April 1954. Jack Umbs never married.

His body was interred 8 MAR 1949 in Riverside Cem., Defiance Co., OH. Obit: George Umbs, 60, taken in sleep: World War I Vet's rites to be Tues. George P. Umbs, well-known Defiance band man who was a member of the old Sixth Regiment Band and a veteran of World War I, died in his sleep Friday at his home, 402 Franklin St. Death was attributed to a heart trouble. The body is at the Mansfield Funeral Home where it will remain until services Tues. at 9:30 a.m. in St. Johns Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Riverside Cem. Members of the American legion, of which Mr. Umbs was a charter member, will meet at Memorial Hall Sunday at 2 p.m. to go in body to the funeral home. The legion will also conduct military rites. Mr. Umbs was born in Highland Twp. Sept. 6, 1888, the son of Jacob and Margaret Umbs and lived in Defiance for 55 years. he was a member of the National Guard prior to World War I, went with Co. G to the Mexican border and then served overseas during the war. he enlisted June 26, 1915 and was discharged April 19, 1919, as a musician third class. Ill for some time, he had last been employed at the Lynch Corp. He was also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Forty and Eight, Eagles, Elks, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Knights of Ohio, St. Boniface Society of St. Johns Catholic Church, and the Defiance Fish and Game Assn, Mr. Umbs had played in most local bands since 1908 and was a member of the newly-organized Eagles band. Surviving are a brother, Jack with whom he resided; two sisters Mrs. Philippine Taylor of Cleveland, and Mrs. Louisa McCauley, Sacramento, CA. A brother Joseph and two sisters Katherine Umbs and Mrs. Margaret McKellipes, proceeded him in death.

Obit: Philippine (Taylor) Kopp. 77, 103 Thimothy, was dead on arrival at Defiance Hospital at 5:55 p.m. Friday, where she was taken by the rescue squad when she suddenly became ill at home. Born Nov. 4, 1891 in Highland Twp., she was the daughter of Jacob and Marguerite (Flomersfeld) Umbs. She and William Kopp were married Oct. 1964. He is her only survior. Proceeding her in death were three brothers, Joseph, George, and Jocob Umbs, and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret McKellipes and Mrs. Louise McCauley. Mrs Kopp had worked as a sales clerk for the Taylor Co. in Cleveland for 37 1/2 years, retiring in 1957 and moving back to Defiance. She was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church and its Christian Mothers, Alter and Rosary Society, Defiance Senior Citizens Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Defiance Historical Society. The body is at Mast and Mock Funeral Home, where friends may call after 7 p.m. today. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Johns Catholic church, Msgr. John J. Vogel officiating. burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday in the Funeral home.
