9. James A.3 BARBER (James T.2, Thomas1) reference LJ(B)S (#1359) was born in Berkshire Co., England circa 1620. May have been born in Newport Co., RI James died 1687 in Newport, Newport Co., RI, at age 67.

James immigrated to destination unknown 1633. When James was age unknown and an unknown person was age unknown they became the parents of Moses BARBER before 1652 in Newport, Newport Co., RI. it is thought he may have been born in January 1652 possibly the 5th, it is also believed that his mother was Eleanor ? Family history states that two brothers Thomas and James from the county of Berkshire, England, descendants of Thomas Barber, an officer in Cromwell's Army came to this country, landing at or near Boston, MA. About 1633 James Barber, who was born about 1612-14. with his brothers, came from Berkshire, England, landing at Boston. Later James went to Newport, R.I., and was known to be the owner of 1/36 part of all lands of the Westerly Purchases in R.I. of which there were two, roughly estimated at 40,000 acres. James Barber's share was at least 1000 acres. In July 2, 1667 he was listed as a member of the town Council of Newport, R.I. It is assumed or even reasonably believed he md an Eleanor Hide and then he married to a Mary Lawton
