Bernard died 15 DEC 2001 in Defiance Co., OH., at age 83. His body was interred 19 DEC 2001 in St. Michael's, Defiance Co., OH.

He was a US Air Force veteran of WW II with the 371st bomb squadron and 307th Bomb Group in he Asiatic-Pacific theater. He owned Wagners Used Cars, Wagner Home Oil Gas Station was a salesman at area car dealerships and a bus driver for Northeastern schools. He was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church, Jewel American Legion Post 635, Elks Lodge 147, VFW Post 3360, and the Knights of Columbus Council 1039 fourth degree. He was ran over by a car in very early youth and survived.
