William was the son of Jefferson Davis 'Jeff' RILEY and Ida Mae ALLOT. William died 2 NOV 2008 in Natchez, Adams Co., MS, at age 84. Lawyer William F. Riley, 84, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at Montpelier Plantation in Natchez, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Broome officiating. Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Mr. Riley was born Jan. 24, 1924, in Joliet, Ill., the son of Jefferson D. and Ida Allot Riley. He was the valedictorian of his class at New Hebron High School and attended Culver Military Academy. He was a graduate of the U.S. Naval School at Cornell University. Mr. Riley served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II sustaining radiation injuries while stationed in Japan at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He was also a graduate of Mississippi State University and University of Mississippi Law School. He was a member of the Law Journal of the University of Mississippi Law School, member of Phi Kappa Psi Legal Fraternity, University of Mississippi Alumni Association, Mississippi State Bar, Mississippi Trial Lawyers, Adams County Bar and the American Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Riley was a Mason, a Shriner and a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Vernon, Kenneth, John, Merle, and Rodney Riley; and two sisters, Esther Riley Myers and Ima Riley Myers. Survivors include his wife, Carlene Gillespie Riley; two daughters, Bonnie E. Riley of Natchez and Danielle L. Dickey, of Nashville, Tenn.; three sons, William F. Riley Jr. and Mark A. Riley, both of Natchez, and Jeff Riley and wife, Dianne, both of Brandon; and five grandchildren, Lisa R. Hickman, William Riley III, Ben L. Riley, Jeff Riley and Ashley Riley. Pallbearers will be Ron Riley, James Riley, Jeff Myers, Glen Boyce, Larry Green and Jerry Walker. Honorary pallbearers will be Seth Haney, Bobby Cox, Phillip Smith, Bruce Lewis, John Ball, Flavius Smith, Charles Hunt, Larry Hunt, Cleveland Moore and Bill Rice?s Sunday School Class. When Stella was age 22 and William Franklin RILEY was age 29 they became the parents of William Franklin Jr. RILEY 9 MAR 1953 in Natchez, MS. When Stella was age 26 and William Franklin RILEY was age 33 they became the parents of Mark Alexander RILEY 16 JUN 1957 in Natchez, MS. When Stella was age 30 and William Franklin RILEY was age 37 they became the parents of Bonnie Elizabeth RILEY 27 FEB 1961 in Natchez, MS. a former genealogist researching the Miller family also. Carlene entered heaven on November 16, 2020 after a lengthy illness(Lupus). A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 22, 2020 in the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

She was born on June 27, 1930 in Jackson, MS, to John T. and Mayme Cooper Gillespie, Jr.

Her early school years were at Barr Elementary, Enoch Jr., High, and graduation at Forest Hill High School in Jackson, MS.

After graduation she went to work for Dr. Myers in Jackson and then Dr. Homer Whittington in Natchez. It was in Natchez where she met her husband William F. "Bill" Riley, Sr. as he was starting his law career.

Carlene was a wonderful hostess and enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends, cooking, entertaining and masterfully decorating her husband's law office. She was an animal lover and especially loved dogs.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, son Mark and great granddaughter Danielle.

Carlene is survived by her son William F. "Bill" Riley Jr., daughter Bonnie Elizabeth Riley, grand children Lisa Riley Blanchard (Shelton), William F. Riley Ill, Benjamin Lee Riley (Sonya) along with six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving sister Bonnie "Sis" Burgess of Madison, MS and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She had Lupus for many years
