257. Hearl Gene⁶ WHITMER (Charles Elmer⁵, Nellie Arabella⁴ BARBEAU, Mary³ KNOLL, Martin², Martin¹ NULL) (#3514) was born in Lucas Co., OH 4 JUN 1927. Hearl died 31 MAR 2004 at age 76. Toledo Blade obit 04/02/04 Hearl G. Whitmer, 76, of Delta, passed away Wednesday morning, March 31, 2004, at the Swanton Health Care Center. Prior to his retirement he was a carpenter by trade. After retirement he spent many hours in his woodworking shop and worked part-time at the Delta Super Wash. He was born in Toledo on June 4, 1927, the son of Charles E. and Hilda (Johnson) Whitmer. On August 18, 1945, he married Louise Gee, and she survives. He was a member of the Delta United Methodist Church. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. He was also a member of the Delta American Legion Post 373 and their National Champion Staccato Drill Team. Other memberships included the Masonic Lodge of Delta and the Delta Eagles. He was a past member of the Wauseon Elks and the Delta Community Fire Department. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be greatly missed. Surviving is his wife, Louise of Delta; son, Larry (Jackie) Whitmer of Findlay; daughter, Beth A. (John) Bay of Delta; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Neil Whitmer of Swanton and Michael Paskan of Wauseon, and sister, Sally Taulbee of Fairborn, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Neil Wayne Whitmer, and grandson, Michael Bay. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004, at the Delta United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Karen Crawford, officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Delta. Friends may call at the Grisier Funeral Home in Delta on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where American Legion Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Delta United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
