He married Catherine Ann MILLER 20 NOV 1849 in Defiance, Defiance Co., OH. (Catherine Ann MILLER is
#176.) Catherine was born 22 APR 1824 in Massillon, Stark Co., OH. Catherine was the daughter of William Sr. MILLER and
Elizabeth "Betsy" NOOLS. Catherine died 4 DEC 1913 in Stryker, Williams Co., OH, at age 89. Her body was interred
DEC 1913 in Oakwood Cem., Stryker, OH. Cardiac Arrest
He was christened 1822 in France. John immigrated to destination unknown 1831. John Richard was about 8 years of age at
the time of the family immagration to America, and his early educational advantages were very limited in scope, being confined to a brief
subscription school in Stark Co., OH. He remained at the parental home assisting in providing for the family, until he was 17 years of age,
and then he began an apprenticeship at the trade of carpenter and joiner, in Roberstville, Stark Co., OH serving three years and becoming a
skilled worker. Thereafter he followed followed his trade in Canton and Massilon, Stark Co., OH after which he went to Pittsburg, PA. Not
being able to find profitable work there he went to Virginia visiting various places in search of employment and finally securing work in
Portsmouth, OH were he remained for three months. He then passed 4 months into Cincinnati, after which he was in Louisville, KY, for a
short interval, later visiting Cairo, IL and St. Louis, MO, in which the later city he was employed in the Ship yards for three months. He
passed the ensuring 8 months in New Orleans, LA, whence he returned to Cincinnati, and two months later returned to Stark Co., OH. I 1848
he came to with his father to Williams Co., OH shortly thereafter going to Defiance, OH were he maintained a home until 1861, in the
meantime being employed on the Miami canal in the capacity of carpenter for fully a decade. In 1861 Mr Richard came to Stryker were since
maintained his residents, and were he has done a large amount of excellent work as a carpenter and joiner, having erected many buildings in
this section, while he has done considerable work as a millwright.
