Dorothy Helzerman, age 97, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Gilbert Residence. She was born June 11, 1915 in Bryan, OH, the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Barber) Miller. She was a graduate of Bryan (Ohio) High School, a 1935 graduate of Cleary College, Ypsilanti, and received an Associate Degree in General Studies from Washtenaw Community College in 1988. On November 3, 1939, she married Arthur Helzerman in Ypsilanti and he preceded her in death October 11, 2003. She was employed by the Ann Arbor Credit Bureau for a number of years then accepted a position at Eastern Michigan University until her retirement. Dorothy was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Ypsilanti, the Women's Study Club, the Ladies Literary Club and The General Society of Mayflower Descendents, having been a descendent of Mayflower passenger, George Soule. She is survived by: one son, Thomas (Patsy) Helzerman of Fort Myers, FL; former daughter-in-law, Judy (Gary) Raymond of Ypsilanti; grandchildren, Daniel (Jeanne) Helzerman of Ypsilanti, Amy LaVeck of Memphis, TN, Theresa (Abdon) Saenz de Viteri of Ypsilanti, Richard II (Kelli) Helzerman of North Bend, WA, Sarah Helzerman of Arlington, TN, Jan Marten of Ann Arbor and Julie Agar of Gregory, MI; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters and one son, Richard. The funeral service will be 11 AM Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Stark Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
