Her body was interred APR 1907 in OldRiversideCem., Defiance, OH.(46) She was buried in April the following spring do to severe frozen ground and unable to dig a grave during December. He body was interned in the Riverside chappel during this time.

She married Pressley Moses RICE 24 SEP 1895 in Defiance Co., OH.. (Pressley Moses RICE is #43.) Pressley was born 25 FEB 1869 in Pandora, Putnam Co., OH. Pressley was the son of Wilson D. RICE and Martha Bell CORRAN. Pressley died 6 FEB 1946 in Allen Co., OH, at age 76. His body was interred FEB 1946 in Woodlawn Cem., Lima, OH. Pressley was a piano tuner in occupation, he also worked in barber shop. He met Emma, his wife at the Valentine Theater in Defiance, OH while he was playing the piano at various plays at the Valentine. Pressley was also a barber in Lima, He played a role in my Grandpa Charles D. Barber becoming a barber. There is a infant Perry Rice buried in Riverside Cem. on the same plot as Emma Barber Rice and children. I do not know who this Perry Rice is? Could he actually be another son of Pressly and Emma? Grandpa Barber did not ever mention this or nor did Clarence Rice in my discussions with him. I am leaning on Perry Rice as a infant son of Pressley & Emma Rice

When Emma was age 18 and Pressley Moses RICE was age 27 they became the parents of Clarence Delbert RICE 20 JAN 1897 in Defiance, Defiance Co., OH. When Emma was age 21 and Pressley Moses RICE was age 31 they became the parents of Forest Elgen RICE 11 JUN 1900 in Defiance, Defiance Co., OH. Emma died in Lima, OH after childbirth of a Daughter who also did not survive. Her body was shipped on the Lima, Defiance, and Milwaukee RR to Defiance and was put in storage at the Defiance Cemetery and eventually burried in the spring due to deep frost in the ground. There is a Perry Rice buried on the same plot in Old Riverside Cemetery. Who is Perry Rice? Most likely a first son?

Child Bed Fever was listed as cause of death. per our cousin Dr. Orval Miller he indicated that CBF was a bacteria infection similar to strep!

Emma Leone BARBER and Pressley Moses RICE had the following children:

Clarence Delbert Rice

In the nursing home at Ottawa, OH at age 96

child 220 i. Clarence Delbert5 RICE (#44) was born in Defiance, Defiance Co., OH 20 JAN 1897. Clarence died 12 MAR 1994 in Ottawa, Putnam Co., OH., at age 97. His body was interred MAR 1994 in Shawnee Cem, Lima, OH. His ashes were put on his brother Charles Grave.

He was cremated MAR 1994 in Allen Co., OH. ashes buried on his brother Charles grave site. Clarence Died in the nursing home in Ottawa, OH. He worked in the B&O railroad shops in Lima, OH, He also worked at the Lima Locomotive works. He later worked at the YMCA in Lima after he retired from the RR. He had spent time in the Toledo Hospital several times due to anxiety attacks? (George Witt first cousin to Grandfather John C. Barber had the same type of problem, both seemed to be very intelligent). Granpa became a costodial to Clarence when Grt grandma "B" Barber died. I enjoyed many visits with him and he was very helpful in genealogy of the Barber family! He spoke of being scared during a storm at night as an young child while staying at Grt Grandma Jane in Stryker. He did say that the picture of his mother that I had was what he thought was the date of her wedding. He said he missed his mother much in life especially since she died when he was very young, which was at about age 9 he said. He and his brother Charles went to live with their grandmother B. Barber, and she raised the two of them. He did teach my Uncle Thomas A. Barber Sr. and my Dad James H. Barber how to drive as grandpa had a wooden leg and teaching someone to drive was difficult. Both Dad and uncle Tom said the Clarence had a saying when pulling into traffic "pick a shiny one as they won't hit you". He had all his teeth at death with no cavities and the were dark yellow. He loved chewing levi garrett and I alway took some to him at the nursing home. Not a popular item with the nurses, though they did go a long with it as long as he used his maxwell house coffee can with a neck strap so he could drip and spit into the can.
